Undergraduate Research
Research isn't just for graduate students — physics majors can join a lab or research group as early as their first or second year.
How to get started

Browse faculty research areas below and identify one or two that interest you.

Email the faculty member directly, or talk to the Undergraduate Director for help finding a match.
- 3
Enroll in PHYS 4900 or PHYS 4950 to receive credit for your work.
Paid summer research positions with a faculty member and their team.
- ~12-week program, nominally mid-May to mid-August (flexible start/end dates).
- Pay starts at $15/hour, up to 40 hours/week.
- Astronomy applicants: automatically considered for the Raghavan Astronomy Student Fellowship.
- Physics applicants: automatically considered for the Physics Fellowship.
- Application deadline: March 1. Interviews follow the deadline if needed.
- Possible opportunity to present your summer research at a physics or astronomy conference.
