PHYS 4900: Research Project

One semester research project mentored by a faculty member.

What it is

Research Project in physics, astronomy, or a related field including preparation of a written and an oral report. Projects are performed under mentoring of a faculty member. Written reports are developed under the guidance of course coordinator & the instructor of the course, Dr. Yang-Ting Chien. Required for all physics majors. Serves as one of the two Critical Thinking Through Writing (CTW) courses required of all physics majors. This course may include a Signature Experience component.

How to enroll

  1. Identify a faculty member who has an ongoing research project that aligns with your interests and who is willing to serve as your research mentor.
  2. Meet with the faculty mentor to agree on the scope of the project, expectations, responsibilities, and expected deliverables.
  3. Prepare a short written proposal that clearly defines the research question you will investigate, along with a brief description of your planned research activities.
  4. Submit the “PHYS 4900 Research Proposal” form below for approval by the Undergraduate Director and register for the course.

PHYS 3300, PHYS 3401 & UD approval
