Principles of Physics II: Waves and Optics, Electricity and Magnetism, Relativity and Quantum Physics
Course Objectives
: To help students develop (i) a good understanding of fundamental physical principles and
                                 (ii) skills to solve real-world physical problems associated with the topics. Lectures will
                                 include basic principles/concepts illustrated with examples. Students are expected to attend
                                 all the lectures
, and spend time reading the textbook and solving problems from the textbook
                                 to develop a strong understanding of the physical principles.

Textbook:  Physics for Scientists and Engineers by R. D. Knight
                     Part V- VII, Chapters: 20- 42
Prerequisites: Physics 2211, Math 2211, and Math 2212 or equivalent.
Laboratory:  Lab notebooks can be purchased at the Park Place, Georgia, or
                       Georgia State Bookstore.

Grading
Final Grade = 75% (Lecture) + 25% (Laboratory)

                   75% (Lecture) = 25% (homework & quiz) + 25% (Midterms) + 25% (Final Exam)    
                    Letter Grades: A= 4.0, A-, B+, B= 3.0, B-, C+, C=2.0, C-, D+, D=1.0, F =0.0

                                       (x+/- =x +/-0.33)  
Homework (15%): Homework problems will be assigned each week and graded online using E-Grade.
                              You need to register for MasteringPhysics (
http://www.masteringphysics.com/).
                              To do this, you need to know your ACCESS CODE which is included with your textbook
                               or can be obtained online from the publisher. You will also need the course ID, which is

Quiz (10%) : There will be quizzes in each class. 

Exam I & II (in-class):  Sept 21 and Oct 26  (Questions from several chapters will be included in each exam. )


 Final Exam: Cumulative.  
December 11 Friday 8 am
                                             You will be allowed to one-page formula sheet only.
